Thassilo: “I always know why it is worth the effort “
7 Aug 2024
Thassilo Amon, Mechanical Design Engineer, joined WSA in Erlangen, Germany, in April 2023 and works in the hardware ITE (in-the-ear) hearing aid team. He has been closely involved in the development of the Silk Charge&Go IX and Sony Over-the-Counter (OTC) hearing aids. He is currently focused on research topics investigating the implementation of new technologies and components in ITE hearing aids.
From mechanical integration and prototype testing to the creation of specifications and drawings, Thassilo’s team aims to make the hearing aids as small as possible while providing a full range of features. “It’s a real challenge because as technology advances, the number of components increases, but the size of the hearing aid can’t get any bigger.”
What makes him proud
What excites Thassilo most is the impact our hearing aids have on improving the quality of life for people with hearing loss. “It is incredibly rewarding to help people hear better and live their lives to the full. When I design a hearing aid, I always know why it is worth the effort. I reflect on this whenever I see someone wearing our devices.”
Never give up
“Collaboration and communication are essential in my role. We have many interfaces with other teams, especially operations, and it’s important to build and maintain good relationships with them. Understanding their needs and working together to find solutions is a crucial part of overcoming challenges.”
Getting better
“We are encouraged to think outside the box, not to rely solely on past solutions, but to innovate and explore new approaches. We need to ensure that our solutions are market-ready and customer-focused. Innovation isn’t just about having a good idea; it’s about having broad market acceptance. With new challenges emerging every day, problem solving is essential. It’s a constant process of learning and improving both technical and personal skills. Every day is different and that’s what makes the job so interesting.”
